06 Feb First Skills Summit to take place in South Kesteven
A Skills Summit to bring together businesses and education providers is to be held in South Kesteven for the first time next month. The event, which is organised by InvestSK, South Kesteven District Council’s economic growth and regeneration company, will take place at Belton Woods Hotel near Grantham on Wednesday 13th March from 9.30am – 4pm.
It will be the first time InvestSK will have hosted businesses and education providers to discuss ways of growing the District’s talent to better serve the needs of local employers, both now and to identify and bridge any future skills gaps.
The event, which is free to attend, will be headlined by former MP, Neil Carmichael. Neil has a long-standing interest in skills, education and apprenticeships, and was formerly the Chair of the Education Select Committee in parliament.
Steve Bowyer, chief executive of InvestSK, the Council-owned company responsible for leading South Kesteven’s skills agenda, said: “A skilled workforce is fundamental to growing our local economy. Businesses need access to the right talent at the right time – and we want to make sure that talent is retained and grown here in South Kesteven. This event will open the dialogue between local employers and education providers to make sure our future talent pool is skilled and meets the needs of local businesses.”
Councillor Jacky Smith, South Kesteven District Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Health, Wellbeing and Skills, said: “I look forward to welcoming businesses and education providers to our very first Skills Summit next month. The event forms an important part of our plans to enable local companies to harness, develop and attract talent across South Kesteven.
“This will be an interactive event with plenty of opportunity for businesses to voice their skills needs and influence the training provision delivered locally.”
Businesses, education establishments and training providers from across South Kesteven are invited to attend the event. For more details and to book your free place, please click here.
